Clark Still

Constructed: 2003
Contruction time: 30hrs

Why I made this costume:I know I said the kitty was my first costume. And well it was my first ANIME costume. But really this belly dancer is the first costume I ever did by myself. I used to work at a fabric store and they asked me to make a costume to put on display (A special model garment program) So I picked out this dress. I was actually going to take belly dancing lessons a little bit ago to keep in shape but never got around to it with my schedule.

How I made it:
The main fabric (the tanish gold) is a designer drappery fabric. I just loved the look of it and even though I took some crap from the sewers in my family. they liked it in the end too. All of the trim had to be sewn on by hand. The black trim (though you can't see to well) is a shear black with beaded flowers on it. The skirt is a circle and a lot of fun to wear because of it. I'm sure all the ladies here have wore a circle skirt sometime growing up. Now think of that same skirt, only it covers your toes. Lesley also tried it on and had a blast. All of the fabric involved made this a very spendy project. 7 yards of $15 a yard deco fabric and all the beaded trims and such put it over the top. But it was well worth it. Who cares if it's not an anime costume. I spent a good 30 hours on that dress and I'm gonna show it off :-P
